Aotea, also known as New Zealand Cloud Stone, is a beautiful material found in only a small region of New Zealand's South Island - the area around Jacobs Creek in Mahitahi/Bruce Bay. Mineralogically, it's a schist composed principally of kyanite, fuchsite and quartz - and this gives it a beautiful blend of blue and green hues ranging from a pale sky-blue through to an almost emerald green mottled with white. This piece sits towards the lighter blue end of the spectrum, with pale flecks of green scattered through the body of the stone.
 
Measuring in at 78mm long and 17mm wide, this is a simple roimata or tear-shaped drop made for people who like long yet lightweight pieces. Its soft tones are a perfect contrast to deeper-hued formal outfits and more colourful fancy wear alike.
