While most New Zealand rhodonite is gathered in the Otago region, there are small pockets of it that occur in other locales. The stone from which this small trinket has been carved was gathered from the Hokitika River by our carver, and was the smaller section of a pebble.
Measuring in at 35mm long and 28mm wide, this petite pendant is secured by means of a hidden hole through its top. Its tones are a mixture of earthy browns and salmon pink-oranges, enhanced by a mossy network of fine black threads. It's a great first piece for a young wearer: inexpensive and of reasonable quality, and quite capable of taking a serious beating at the hands of a wearer with a very physical lifestyle.
