Known as a bi or pi in Chinese, or as an annulus in Latin, the hollow-centred circle is a classical design that has wide appeal the world over. And it's an excellent form for showing off the rich translucency, strong colours and intriguing patterns of some of the more exquisite nephrite jades that can be found on the New Zealand jade fields. This example is a classical kawakawa jade showcasing the dark green cccolour common to this variety, as well as the augmneting cloud-like patterns weaving through its base tone.
Measuring in at 59mm in diameter and with a thickness of 10mm, this is a meaty piece guaranteed to suit the lover of the large - and a striking addition to any outfit. This piece would not be out of place in either the ballroom or the boardroom.
