A stone unique to the Mahitahi/Bruce Bay area in New Zealand and found nowhere else in the world, aotea is a blend of the minerals kyanite (blue), fuchsite (green) and quartz (white). Considered by the local Makaawhio people to be more sacred than jade, it's believed to be a healing stone and is much prized.
Measuring in at 82mm long and 42mm wide, this toki has been carved with a flat profile that shows off the remarkable dappled effect found in this particular sample of the stone. With a high gloss that shows off this striking patterning, it's a piece guaranteed to catch eyes at a distance, and a fantastic accompaniment to elegant wear.
