A beautiful stone found in many places along the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, aroha stone is known for its rich red and purple tones, which are often contrasted with white patches and accents of apricot and sunset hues from nearby iron deposits. This piece comes from a richly toned aroha stone found on the Hokitika River by our carver while out seeking jade.
 
Measuring in at 88mm long and 35mm wide, this pendant was the largest piece derived from that original pebble out of which it was carved. It also sports the strongest banding of the three, with narrow white and grey bands between the layers of reddish-purple that comprise the stone overall. Suited to the lover of the large, it's a piece that'll look great either as an everyday necklace or as something to augment more formal attire.
