Sporting a soft, almost baby-blue tone, this lovely pendant was carved from a pebble found in one of the many rivers of the West Coast by our carver on one of his stone-sourcing outings. It's carved to a naturalistic style that took best advantage of the form of the pebble overall - as the pebble had very firm ideas about what it wanted to do in terms of allowing itself to be shaped. In addition to its soft blue tone, this piece sports a chatoyant vein that runs through the entire piece, and yet is most prominent on the pendant's back.
Measuring in at 86mm long and 29mm wide, this pendant has been left thicker to ensure that the chatoyant vein running through it remains strong. This preservation of material has created an almost lightning-like consistency to the chatoyant vein, making the piece reminiscent in some ways of a cloudy sky in the midst of a storm. And yet, its softer hues more easily suggest a gently-flowing body of water, with maybe that lightning strak as a slender seam of white water in the midst of the stream. A pretty piece whose gentle hues make it excellent for everyday wear.
