An unusual example of mottled jadeite from Guatemala that nevertheless has a frosty bluish cast when held to the light, this piece suggested the form of a leaf from the moment it was studied. And as its carving made it look ever more like a leaf carved from frost and snow, our carver decided to call it the Frost-Wood Leaf. Its mottled patterns only accentuate the comparison, looking as they do something between the veins in a leaf where they meet, and like clods of snow drifted together where they don't.
 
Measuring in at 64mm long and 34mm wide, this piece has been thinned down by carving the leaf-like shape in deep relief, allowing a good degree of translucency. Its light hues and gentle patterning make it an excellent piece for the lover of discrete jewellery, and its light weight and moderate size allow it to suit even the smaller wearer.
