One of the rarest colours in nephrite jade is black jade - which is actually just so dark green as to appear black when raw or polished. Black jade pieces can reveal their true, deep-green hue at their edges, especially when these are held to the light. And while some of the finest black jades in the world are found in Australia's Cowell region of South Australia, New Zealand's jade fields also contain examples of black jades - particularly in the regions of the Arahura and Hokitika Rivers. This pendant was carved from a black jade pebble found in the Hokitika River, and has been given a simple, wing-like form that showcases the feather-like patterns it sports.

Measuring in at 55mm long and 25mm wide at its widest point, this slender pendant is perfectly suited to the smaller wearer. Its high polish, striking patterns and ricch black hue make it a piece that will stand out - and that makes it a lovely complement for fancy or formal wear.
