Many of the jade pebbles found in the rivers of the West Coast have what's known as a schistose structure - a tendency to fracture into plate-like layers that erode into shingles of jade as they wash downstream. This piece was crafted from one such shingle found in the Hokitika River - a shingle with a mid-green hue, and the kind of stable surface fracturing that shows off the translucency of the stone in remarkable, water-like patterns.

Measuring in at 71mm long and 43mm wide at its widest point, this is a mid-sized piece suited to the average-sized wearer and to everyday wear.
