The disc or marama is a classic Maori pendant form, and is often seen to to represent or invoke the spirit of the moon. This symbolism becomes especially strong when the marama-form is carved from a paler stone such as inanga jade - and this inanga was perfect for the purpose. with pale shades throughout coupled to swirled patterning and fine speckling, there's always something new to see lost in its surface. The stone itself comes from the Hokitika River, where it was found by our carver.
Measuring in at 58mm diameter, this is a thick and robust piece easily able to stand up to the toughest rigours of everyday wear. And yet, its pale tones also make it a strikingly effective piece for formal and fancy wear that will set off any dark toned outfit magnificently.
