Found in a few places on New Zealand's West Coast, rhodonite is a fine-grained manganese silicate gemstone that has a colour range running through pinks and purples to hints of greys and browns. It occurs in association with the black iron-manganese ore known as pyrolusite - and it's this ore that gives this piece its stunning web-like pattern of black threads interspersed between the sections of pale pink that make up its body tone. The shape is a simple, roughly trigonal pendant with a gentle internal curve - a form that blends well with most kinds of outfit.
