A green stone characterised by silvery, feather-like chatoyant crystals in its body, seraphinite gets its name from the likeness of an angel's wings. It's a type of clinochlore serpentine in mineral terms, and is found with some regularity in the Hokitika River area by those who know what they're looking for. Though not a jade, it is a chemical cousin to it - and thus it's often found in the same areas on the jade fields. This piece has some wonderful, chatoyant silvery patches on both its primary and rear faces, with silvery threads in general weaving through and complementing its grey-green base tones beautifully.
Measuring in at 89mm long and 47mm wide at its widest point, this striking pendant is definitely suited best to the lover of the large and visually impressive. This is a stand-out piece for the wearer who wants their jewellery to be noticed.
