In addition to the more familiar bold greens commonly seen in New Zealand's nephrite jades, some rarer stones show the quality known as chatoyancy - a kind of holographic light effect within the jade. Such stones are known as pipiwharauroa or shining cuckoo jade, as their chatoyancy mirrors the chatoyant feathers on the chest of the native shining cuckoo of New Zealand. A gently-curved and otherwise plain toki form, this piece has been carved to showcase the rich green base colour and the frosty tones of the chatoyant patches shimmering across its face.

Measuring in at 67mm long and 39mm wide at its widest point, this is a medium-sized toki suited to the comfort-range of most wearers. It has been left unlashed in order to show off the contrast between its chatoyant lower lengths and its richer green upper portion - an area which lashing would have otherwise obscured completely.
